About the Counsellor:
Connie Wong (she/her) is a Canadian Certified Counsellor and Registered Social Worker. With over 15 years of experience as a mental health practitioner in Singapore, she relocated to Canada in 2020 to continue her clinical practice. Connie has worked with individuals of various age groups dealing with addictions, individuals who were incarcerated, and young adults facing mental health challenges. Presently, she collaborates with individuals and couples, aiding them in gaining insight and acquiring skills to navigate life with increased confidence and effectively manage challenges. I self-identify as BIPOC.
Philosophy:
Connie has a heart for those who are struggling due to their early life experiences and past trauma. She is a firm believer in the healing power of hope and compassion, and is passionate about helping individuals access their internal strengths and resources to live a more empowered and meaningful life. She cares deeply about personal growth and transformation and nothing gives her more joy than to help individuals reach their fullest potential.
Therapeutic Approach:
As a trained mindfulness-based stress reduction and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy teacher, her therapeutic approach is gentle, and person-centered with a focus on the spiritual and compassionate capacity of the individual. She integrates a combination of cognitive behavioural therapy, psychodynamic and attachment-based interventions, neurobiological theory and trauma-informed practices; specifically eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) in her work with individual clients, and the Gottman Method for couples therapy in her work with couples.
