About the Counsellor:

Kayla Rivera (she/her) is a Registered Psychotherapist and Certified Music Therapist with over six years of experience in the field of mental health. Known for her empathy, cultural competence, and active listening, Kayla is passionate about creating a safe, supportive space where clients feel heard and valued. She holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and an Honours Bachelor of Music Therapy from Wilfrid Laurier University.

Philosophy:

Kayla believes that everyone deserves a space to explore their emotions, uncover their strengths, and heal in a way that feels authentic to them. She values the uniqueness of each client and takes a personalized approach to therapy, striving to offer compassion, acceptance, and empowerment every step of the way. Her mission is to help clients build resilience, discover their inner strength, and create meaningful change in their lives. Her favourite part of being a therapist is seeing her clients’ growth and transformation as they reclaim their power and find deeper connection with themselves and others.

Kayla’s approach is holistic, collaborative, and strengths-based. She works from a culturally sensitive, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed lens, tailoring therapy to each client’s needs. Her integrative approach incorporates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Mindfulness-Based Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Music Therapy. Through these modalities, Kayla helps clients address barriers, cultivate self-awareness, and develop practical strategies to navigate challenges. Her work focuses on empowering clients to live authentically and thrive.
