About the Counsellor:
Melanie Johnson (she/her) is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with 19 years of full-time experience in mental health counselling. She has completed over 20 000 individual counselling sessions with clients over the years and is inspired by the choices she has seen people make. Known for her strengths-based caring approach, she is dedicated to creating a healing and safe space for individuals to effect change while feeling respected and supported.
Philosophy:
Melanie believes in appreciating a person’s resilience while encouraging self-compassion and self-acceptance. She feels fortunate to have witnessed the incredible impact that small cumulative changes can have for individuals and celebrates the courage people have to overcome adversity over time to live their best lives. Her outlook is accepting and nonjudgmental.

Known for her excellence in accelerated resolution therapy (eye movement therapy), as well as talk therapy, Melanie uses a variety of therapeutic approaches. These include cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, grief counselling, motivational interviewing, narrative therapy, trauma informed, person-centered, positive psychology, solution focused, and strengths based therapy. She tailors her approach to celebrate the unique abilities and needs of each client.
