About the Counsellor:
Amanda Cook (she/her) holds a Master of Social Work degree with 10 years of practice experience, specializing in gender-based violence and mental health & addictions. Known for her calm and non-judgmental demeanour, she is dedicated to fostering a safe and healing space for all.
Philosophy:
Amanda believes in person-centered, strength-based approaches to therapy, ensuring clients are in the driver's seat of their healing journey. Amanda believes that empowering individuals to harness their strengths and recognize their personal power allows them to (re)connect with their authentic selves.
Therapeutic Approach:
Grounded in a trauma-informed practice, Amanda tailors her approach to meet each client's unique needs and goals. She incorporates Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), relational therapy, motivational interviewing with a harm-reduction lens, and mindfulness-based practices. Amanda also uses CBT and DBT tools and techniques to support cognitive and emotional change while incorporating nurturing resourcing to help regulate and heal the nervous system. By combining these approaches, she supports clients in moving toward healing, growth, and a greater sense of agency.
