About the Counsellor:

Amanda Cowell RSW (she/they) is a Registered Social Worker with 15+ years of experience in mental health and community support. Known for creating a safe, inclusive, nonjudgmental and compassionate space, Amanda is dedicated to building a trusting therapeutic connection with individuals, couples, and families.

Philosophy:

Amanda believes in relational, client centred, harm-reduction and collaborative therapy. Amanda also believes it is important to ensure that that everyone in therapy feels like their voices and perspectives are centred in the therapeutic process. Amanda believes that it is important that each client knows their rights and that clients feel comfortable saying something if anything does not feel right. Amanda is committed to safety, trust, advocacy, transparency, and collaboration.

Therapeutic Approach:

Amanda's therapeutic approach focuses on providing therapy in ways that center the clients needs. Amanda is experienced with modalities including LGBT+ Affirmative Therapy, Neurodivergent Affirmative Therapy, CBT, DBT, EFT, Narrative Therapy, Arts-based Therapy, skill building and education based approaches. Amanda is informed by Harm-Reduction, Attachment Theory, Family Systems Theory and Collective Community Care. Amanda also believes that the therapeutic approach for each client should be decided collaboratively between client and therapist to best serve everyone's unique needs.

Focus Areas:

Armada's scope of practice includes Neurodivergence, ADHD, CPTSD, OCD, chronic illness, grief and loss, depression and anxiety, interpersonal violence, addiction and substance use - harm-reduction and more. Amanda is confident that by working together through building trust and focusing on strengths and skill development therapy can lead to solutions and a better quality of life.
